The Compaq Alumni Group is an online community launched February 16, 2012, the 30th anniversary of Compaq Computer Corporation’s founding in 1982. In its first year, the Compaq team took the first steps to create a remarkable company that played a key role in the creation of the PC industry and to end IBM’s domination of the personal computer market. By November 1982 the company, until then known as Gateway Technology, had announced its official name of Compaq Computer Corporation and its first product, the Compaq Portable Computer.
Rod Canion, one of Compaq’s founders and its first CEO, is leading an effort to create a book that conveys the story of Compaq’s key role in creating the personal computer industry standard that eventually fueled the explosive growth of the industry. We plan to share excerpts from the book on the site as it progresses.
Members of the Compaq Alumni Group can post photos and comments, share Compaq stories and connect with the other members. Registration is easy. Just fill out our simple form to access all of the site's features and others we will be introducing.
